Established in 1980, the
Institute of Marine Engineers (India) is a professional
Society of Learned Members. It also has bilateral relations
with other leading professional Societies in the maritime
sector. The Institute’s aim is “exchange of knowledge
through interaction”.
With a worldwide membership of
over 8000 members, the Institute promotes the development of
Marine Engineering knowledge. It enables marine engineers to
correspond, meet and discuss to facilitate the exchange of
ideas in respect of improvements in the maritime industry.
For the furtherance of education and training in Maritime
Sciences, IME(I) coordinates with universities, educational
institutions, classification societies, professional
organisations and statutory authorities.
IME(I) operates from its own
office in Navi Mumbai, which is spread over an area of 2000
square metres. The Institute conducts training courses to
meet the industry’s demands.
IME(I) publishes a monthly
magazine “IME(I)” providing the latest development in maritime
industry. The Institute has constituted and maintains a
Benevolence Fund for relief to indigent and diseased members
of the Institute. It also publishes books for the benefit
of the marine engineers.
The Institute has vast
experience in organising International Seminars. Since its
inception, one major international seminar is held every
year at one of its various branches, the most important
events being the four-yearly “INMARCO” in Mumbai and the
“Shipping Summit” at Chennai. These seminars are held for
three consecutive days, wherein authors and delegates from
all over the world exchange information about the latest
developments in marine field. They also have an exhibition
segment, wherein various companies display their products.
The
Institute of Marine Engineers (India), being the host for
the event, welcomes you all to Mumbai for a stimulating week
in January 2009. This will be an occassion to share our
“Perceptions and Visions” with all attending this
conference. We at IME(I) intend to make these few days the
most rewarding experience, with exchange of ideas and
constant dialogue with others resulting in developing new
contacts and renewing your old contacts. |
